This Wivenhoe homeowner wanted a bigger, level patio that would not sink or go green within a couple of years. We lifted the old slabs, rebuilt the base properly and laid Indian sandstone with the falls running away from the house.
What we did
- Lifted and removed the old paving and dug out to the correct depth
- Laid and compacted a 100mm MOT Type 1 sub-base
- Bedded each slab on a full mortar bed, not spots, so there are no hollow or rocking slabs
- Pointed with a brush-in resin jointing compound to keep weeds out and maintenance low
- Finished with new edging and turf repair where the lawn met the works
