Petrol station extension, Dover
L Groundworks were appointed as groundworks subcontractor on the extension of a petrol station in Dover, Kent, delivering the foundations, slab and forecourt paving for the main contractor on a live site.
The main contractor needed a groundworks team who could work on an operating forecourt without disrupting trade. The extension required new foundations and a concrete slab for the enlarged shop and canopy area, plus block paving to tie the new forecourt into the existing surface. Work had to fit around fuel deliveries and keep the station open throughout.
What we did
- Set out and excavated the extension footprint, with spoil removed from site daily to keep the forecourt clear
- Installed strip foundations and a reinforced concrete slab to the structural engineer's specification
- Laid new drainage and ducting for the extended canopy and forecourt services
- Block paved the extended forecourt area, matching the fall and finish of the existing surface
- Worked to the main contractor's RAMS, with heras fencing and traffic management keeping customers and tankers away from the works
