On this private new build in Frating, between Colchester and Clacton, L Groundworks were appointed principal contractor, running the site and delivering the groundworks, drainage and foundations with our own plant and operatives.
The client wanted one company to take responsibility for the site from the first dig: holding the CDM principal contractor duties, coordinating follow-on trades and delivering the below-ground works directly rather than through another layer of subcontract.
What we did
- Took on principal contractor duties under CDM 2015: construction phase plan, site set-up, welfare, inductions and RAMS
- Site strip, reduced dig and excavation of foundations with our own 360 excavators and dumpers
- Poured foundations and ground-bearing slab to the structural engineer's design
- Installed foul and surface water drainage, including a sustainable drainage system to planning conditions
- Coordinated follow-on trades and kept the client updated with a weekly site report
